Terms and conditions
Article 1 : OBJECT
1.1. The TOTAL Group, having its head office at 2, place Jean Millier, La Défense 6, 92400, Courbevoie, France, being registered with the Nanterre Company and Trade Register under number 542 051 180, is organising a free online contest from 1 December 2011 to 1 September 2012. No purchase is necessary to enter or win. This Contest is named Operation Team TOTAL (hereinafter referred to as the "Contest").
1.2. The Contest (including its updates) is available on www.total-campus.com/team (the "Site").
1.3. The characteristics of the Contest are as follows:
- The Contest is open to residents of France and other countries. Only the students of Business Schools, Engineering Schools, and Universities are entitled to participate.
- The Contest serves to select projects of students ("Teams") for different categories of grants (Land / Sea / Sky / Go For It). The projects will be awarded grants according to the criteria defined in Article 4 of these Rules and Regulations.
The Sky Grant is awarded to student projects designed to develop a project enabling access to solar photovoltaics or access to water by means of a solar pumping system (for a school, health centre or even households without any modern form of access to energy).
The Land Grant is awarded to three student projects wishing to participate in the Raid Centrale Paris.
The Sea Grant is awarded to three student projects wishing to participate in the EDHEC Cup (sailing race).
The Go For It Grants are awarded to any particularly interesting type of project.
1.4. The student members of a team must meet the eligibility criteria in order to win a grant.
Article 2 : HOW TO ENTER
2.1. The Contest is announced by a communication campaign. An e-mail is sent to the students and students' associations of the Colleges and Universities for which TOTAL has e-mail addresses.
2.2. Entries for the Contest can only be made online, via the website www.total-campus.com/team. The Site can be accessed using a computer connected to the Internet. Since the connection fee is free for schools and universities, there will be no refund.
2.3. The Contest is open to individuals who are students of legal age on the first day of the Contest (1st December 2012) and who are enrolled in one of the colleges or universities concerned. The college / university must be a Business School, Engineering School, or Science Faculty in a University.
2.4. Team composition
- Sky Grants : To compete for a Sky Grant, most of the participants in the team (including the team leader) must not graduate before 2013: the winning projects will be followed up for one year.
- Land Grants : To compete for a Land Grant, a team must comprise 3 students including at least one girl and one substitute. The latter will take part in training sessions but will only take part in the Raid in Corsica if one of his/her teammates cannot attend before leaving for the Raid (due to injury before the Raid for example). A maximum of two schools can be represented per team. The team will be complemented by a Total manager captain appointed by Total.
- Sea Grants : 7 students. A maximum of two schools can be represented per team.
- The Go For It Grant : the team structure is free, based on the projects presented
2.5. No one contestant may belong to more than one (1) team and as a result, can only make one application to take part in the Team TOTAL Contest.
2.6. To be eligible to participate, each team must visit the Site and create its file by entering the information requested (college / university, personal information about the participants, motivation letter, CV, e-mail address, etc.).
2.7. For the EDHEC Cup and the Raid Centrale Paris, each team must register beforehand with the team organising each events, and pay the pre-registration fee. If the team is one of the teams selected to be a member of the Team Total:
- The organisation of the Raid Centrale Paris will reimburse the team's pre-registration fee as soon as possible.
- For the EDHEC Cup, a grant of 6,000 euros will be given to the team by Total, to cover these costs.
2.8. An application form in which one or more of the details required is/are inaccurate will not be taken into account and by law, will automatically render the team's participation in the Contest invalid. If a member of the team forgets to include in the application form one of the entries required, s/he will be notified by e-mail and invited to correct the application.
2.9. No later than two hours after acceptance of the team's registration form, the team leader will be sent an email confirming the participation of the team in the Contest.
2.10. The participation of a student in the Contest in no way obliges TOTAL to employ the student thereafter or to offer him/her an internship with TOTAL, act as an international corporate volunteer/ volunteer for international solidarity or offer him/her vocational training.
2.11. If participation in the Contest involves travelling (for the final for example), Total will consider partial or total reimbursement of the travel costs (e.g. on the basis of a 2nd class French railway return ticket in France). Reimbursement will not be automatic: the procedure for obtaining any refund will be specified where appropriate on the Contest website.
Article 3 : PRIZES
A sponsorship agreement will be established by and between each winning team and TOTAL, specifying the considerations associated with the prizes. The prizes for the Team TOTAL Contest are as follows.
3.1. For the 2 winning teams of the Land Grants for the Raid Centrale Paris: 2 prizes worth 6, 000 euros covering the registration fees of each team for the Raid Centrale Paris and training weekends.
Once the winning teams have been designated, the sums are not paid directly to them: the registration fees for the teams will be paid directly by TOTAL to Raid Centrale Paris on behalf of the teams (the registration fees for one person are equal to € 250).
Sports goods will also be provided to the members of winning teams, such as athletic Capris, T-shirts, fleeces, parkas, polo shirts, caps and sports bags (face value of textile goods of euros 1,000 for each team consisting of 4 students and 1 substitute).
3.2. For the 2 teams winning Sea Grants for the EDHEC Cup: 2 prizes worth euros 6,300 each to attend the EDHEC Sailing Race flying the colours of Team TOTAL.
Once the winning teams have been designated, the grant provided by Total should cover:
- The renting of a Grand Surprise boat – the team must necessarily rent it from Team Winds at the negotiated price: €3 450 (all taxes included)
- The renting of a boat from Team Winds for the training weekend: €950 (all taxes included)
- The registration of the team at the EDHEC Sailling Race (7 students and a well-known skipper appointed by Total): €1440 (all taxes included)
- Miscellaneous expenses (transportation costs and meals): €460 (all taxes included)
The branding of the boat will be realized by Total: exclusive partnership for branding the boat and clothing.
Sports goods will also be provided to the members of the winning teams, such as sailing jackets, polo shirts and caps (face value of textile goods of euros 2,300 for each team consisting of 7 students and a skipper).
3.3. For Go For It grants: each prize will be defined according to the selected project, and may cover all or part of the costs necessary for the project. The amount of the grant will be defined by the sponsorship agreement between TOTAL and the winning team.
3.4. For the 2 teams winning Sky Grants : 1st prize worth 5,000 euros - 2nd prize worth 2,500 euros to develop a project enabling access to solar photovoltaics or access to water by means of a solar pumping system (for a school, health centre or even households without any modern form of access to energy).
The project must relate to a country in which the population has limited access to energy.
Local support (training and equipment) may be made through the Tenesol subsidiary (www.tenesol.com) in countries where the company is present.
A sponsorship agreement will be established between the winning teams and the Group for a period of one year. As specified in the agreement, the person(s) responsible for the selected projects must present them prior to and after achievements in the field have been made. A mission report and a report after 1 year of operation will be required.
3.5. The jury reserves the right to award a prize to the team that has won the most votes on the web.
Article 4 : SELECTION OF WINNERS
4.1. Selection of winners of the Team Total Contest
The files will be selected based on the ranking of the selection committee composed of staff of the TOTAL Group.
The criteria of the selection committee are as follow:
• why and how the team is involved in the project,
• how far along the project is,
• to what extent the team shares the Group’s core values of Team Spirit, Solidarity, Challenge and Stretching your limits
• The originality of the materials presented
• Votes by the public
Specific criteria:
- For sports projects, the athletic abilities of the participants
- For Sky Grants: the environmental and social relevance of the project, the means implemented to ensure its operation over time. Particular attention will be paid to knowledge transfer and the training of stakeholders (energy, water, maintenance issues, etc.) at the local level.
o Phase 1 : Filing your application
- For Land Grant, filing of applications is possible until 30 January 2012 at 8:00.
- For Sea Grant, filing of applications is possible until 30 January 2012 at 8:00.
- For Sky Grant, filing of applications is possible until 19 March 2012 at 8:00.
- For Go For It Grants: filing of applications is possible until 27 February 2012.
Enrolment and submission of team applications takes place on the TOTAL Team Site (www.total-campus.com/team), from the start of the procedure outlined in article 2.
o Phase 2 : Online voting and the study of application files by the panel of TOTAL managers
Online voting will take place from 19 December for all the grants.
The presentations of the teams (1 document per team) are posted and accessible to all on the www.total-campus.com/team website. In each category, users will vote on the www.total-campus.com/team website for the team they wish to support. The number of votes received is not the only criterion for selection but is a point to be taken into account in the choice of the jury.
To vote, users must select the team / project for which they wish to vote, and then enter their email address, name, first name, and school.
Please note that each person may vote only once per category!
Temporary and anonymous email addresses will be considered invalid (such as youumail.com; youpymail.com; yopmail.com; brefmail.com; mailcatch.com; yopmail.fr; yopmail.net; cool.fr.nf; jetable.fr.nf; nospam.ze.tc; nomail.xl.cx; mega.zik.dj; speed.1s.fr; courriel.fr.nf; moncourrier.fr.nf; monemail.fr.nf; monmail.fr.nf, etc.), and emails from domains specially created / registered for the event.
Application finalists announced by the jury:
- Sky grants : 29 March 2012
- Sea grants : 9 February 2012
- Go For It grants : 8 March 2012
There will be no final for Land grants
o Phase 3 : Finals and selection of teams by the Total manager selection committee
- Sky grants : 4 April 2012
- Sea Grants : EDHEC Sailing Race: The final vote to elect the winner from among the 6 finalist teams will be held at Group head office on 15 February
- Go For It Grants : the final vote to elect the winner from among on 14 March
For the Sky, Sea, and Go For It Grants, the team manager or a team representative as you wish will defend the project at the Group's head office.
There will be no final for Land grants. Representatives of the jury will be present during the Prologue of the ECP Raid on 25 February 2012 for students who wish to meet them.
The jury reserves the right to award a prize to the team that has won the most votes on the web.
o Phase 4 : Announcement of teams selected
- Sky grants : 16 April 2012
- Land grants : 8 February 2012
- Sea grants : 27 February 2012
- Go For It Grants : 26 March 2011
The announcement of the winners and teams selected for the Team Total will be posted on the www.total-campus.com/team website.
4.2. Winning teams undertake to pay any and all applicable taxes, duties, social security contributions or other levies as required by law. TOTAL is released from all liability in this respect.
4.3. Medical reasons are the sole acceptable grounds for replacing a member of a winning team. The substitute team member must be enrolled at the same school.
4.4. Winning teams undertake not to accept the sponsorship of any other sponsor from the oil industry or related industries (such as lubricant manufacturers).
Article 5 : RELEASE OF LIABILITY
5.1. Participation in the Contest implies knowledge and acceptance of the characteristics and limitations of the Internet, especially with regard to technical performance, response times for consulting, querying or transferring information, risks of interruption and more generally the risks inherent to any form of connection and transmission on the Internet, the lack of protection of certain data against possible misappropriation and the risks of contamination by viruses circulating on the network.
5.2. Under no circumstances, therefore, may TOTAL be found liable for the following (non-exhaustive list):
- contents of the services consulted on the Site and, more generally, all information and/or data available via the services consulted on the Site;
- transmission and/or reception of all data and/or information by Internet;
- Internet malfunction preventing smooth functioning of the Contest;
- failure of any reception equipment or communication lines;
- loss of any electronic or conventional mail and, more generally, of any loss of data;
- routing problems;
- software problems;
- the consequences of any virus, data-processing bug, anomaly, or technical failure;
- any damage caused to the computer of a contestant;
- as well as all and any technical, material and software failure that prevents or limits the possibility of taking part in the Contest or damages the system of a team or one of its members.
5.3. It is hereby specified that TOTAL may not be held liable for any direct or indirect damage resulting from any interruption, malfunction of any kind, suspension, or termination of the Contest, for any reason whatsoever, or for any direct or indirect damage caused in any way by connection to the Site. It is up to all the teams to take all the appropriate measures to protect their own data and / or software stored on their computing equipment against any such form of attack. The connection of any person to the Site and the participation of the teams in the Contest are under their full responsibility.
5.4. Under no circumstances may TOTAL be held liable in cases of force majeure or unforeseeable circumstances beyond its control.
5.5. TOTAL reserves, in all cases, the right to modify any or all previously published dates or times. Modified dates or times take effect immediately on the Site.
5.6. TOTAL reserves the right not to publish the remarks made by teams using the "Contact and FAQ" features of the Site.
5.7. Any modifications to same made during the Contest are announced online at the Site and are considered as modifications to the present Rules and Regulations and as such are filed with Alain SARAGOUSSI, Bailiff, 79 rue Réaumur, 75002, Paris, France.
Article 6 : SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION
6.1. It is hereby agreed that, except in the case of obvious error, TOTAL is authorised to use for its own purposes, and especially for the purpose of establishing authenticity, correctness, or omission, all programs, data, files, recordings, operations or other elements (such as monitoring reports) in either digital or electronic form, that are set up, received, or archived directly or indirectly by TOTAL, in particular in its information systems.
These elements are used as evidence to establish, inter alia, the grounds for team rankings during selection.
6.2. The teams agree not to dispute the admissibility, validity, or conclusiveness of the above-mentioned elements in either digital or electronic form, on any legal grounds whatsoever stating that some documents must be written or signed by the parties concerned in order to be considered valid.
The above-mentioned elements are considered evidence and as such, if produced by TOTAL in the event of any dispute, legal or otherwise, they will be considered wholly admissible, valid, and opposable between the parties in the same manner, under the same conditions and with the same conclusive force as any document drawn up, received, or archived in writing.
Article 7 : PRIVACY POLICY
7.1. The contact details for all the contestants are used in accordance with the French law dated 6 January 1978 relating to data processing, files and freedoms, or any other law that overrides it. Contestants have the right to access, correct, or withdraw their personal data. It may be exercised by mail to the following address mduchesne@team-total.com. The TOTAL Group may need to use these data to improve the tracking of enrolment files.
7.2. Participants agree that their participation in the TOTAL Contest, in accordance with the provisions relating to image rights, includes the right for Total and its partners to use their media image for the purposes of communication about this contest and for their own account. The photographs and videos may be exploited and used by Total in any form and on any media worldwide, including in-house magazines, websites, communication leaflets, posters, advertising campaigns, and newsletters. These photographs and videos are intended to highlight the image of Total's Relations with Higher Education. Consequently, they will only be used in a promotional manner. This authorisation is valid for 10 years from the date of the contest.
Article 8 : CONTEST DATES AND MODIFICATIONS
8.1. These Rules and Regulations apply to all teams and team members participating in the Contest by completing and submitting a registration form.
8.2. TOTAL reserves the right to modify the Rules and Regulations and/or Site at any moment, without notice or requirement to explain the modification. TOTAL declines all and any liability arising from these modifications.
8.3. Any modification to the Rules and Regulations will be filed with Alain SARAGOUSSI, Bailiff, 79 rue Réaumur, 75002, Paris, France, and will come into effect as of its publication on the Site. By their participation in the Contest, teams and team members tacitly accept said modifications as of the date of their publication on the Site. Teams or contestants that refuse the modification(s) automatically withdraw from the Contest.
8.4. TOTAL reserves the lawful right to suspend the Contest at any time without notice and without justification. In such case, in no way may the liability of TOTAL be incurred and, therefore, may the teams and their members be entitled to any compensation whatsoever.
8.5. TOTAL reserves the right to prosecute any perpetuators of fraud or attempted fraud. Its liability, however, may not be incurred with respect to the teams and/or their members due to any fraud that may be committed.
8.6. Should a team or team member not comply with any one of these Rules and Regulations, TOTAL reserves the lawful right to disqualify the team involved, without the latter having any right to claim compensation for same.
Article 9 : GOVERNING LAW
These Rules and Regulations are governed by French law.
Article 10 : INTERPRETATION
Any doubt concerning the application or interpretation of these Rules and Regulations , or any unanswered question, will be decided upon without appeal by TOTAL under the direction of Alain SARAGOUSSI, Bailiff, 79 rue Réaumur, 75002, Paris, France, custodian of the Rules and Regulations, in accordance with French law.
Article 11 : FILING AND CONSULTATION OF THE RULES AND REGULATIONS

11.3. Participation in the Contest implies unconditional compliance with these Rules and Regulations in their entirety, with netiquette, and with the laws, regulations and other legal texts applicable in France.
